One of the best beaches in the Algarve. Worth the long dusty drive down to this beach. Great to spend the day with friends or family. Because the road to it (3 km) is unpaved, many people do not know where to find this beautiful beach, while it is really worth it. Parking is free. The beach can also be reached on foot from the beach of Quarteira (700 m). Sun loungers and parasols are available for rent on the beach, and you can enjoy good food in the simple (but expensive) restaurant BJ’s.

Unique golden beach with large lagoon

Praia do Almargem beach is located between Quarteira and Vale do Lobo. It is part of the 17 kilometers long sandy area that stretches from the port of Quarteira to Faro. Great for a beach walk. The beach is a quiet and less touristy beach, with a nice backdrop of sand dunes and pine trees, rather than high rise apartments by the sea. It is very popular with families who want to enjoy the beach.

At the back of the golden beach are some dunes with forest areas of cork oaks and pine trees. The river Ribeira do Almargem flows between them, although in dry seasons it forms a lagoon landscape here. This conservation area is particularly good for bird watching.
